Volare Airlines S.p.A. (also known by its volareweb.com brand) is an Italian low-fares airline which at one time operated flights from Italy to Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Czech Republic and Romania. Volare suspended its operations in November 2004 and filed for bankruptcy.
Volare Group SpA is an operative holding which controls, since 2001, the airlines Volare Airlines SpA and Air Europe. The group operates intercontinental scheduled and charter flights through Air Europe and national flights in Italy through Volareweb.com.
On 30 November 2004 the three companies have been admitted to the Extraordinary Management Procedure and from that moment, under the lead of the Extraordinary Commissionner Mr. Carlo Rinaldini, a big process of restructure of the company began, in order to render Volare a solid and competitive company able to manage the business opportunities and challenges. The intercontinental flights restarted last year on December 27 with a B767. This was the first but extremely important sign of revival of the company. National flights started on the first of June 2005 from Milan Linate to Naples, Brindisi, Bari, Catania and Palermo and return (booked from 28 April 2005). From the 12th of September Volareweb.com return to fly in France with two daily flight from Paris Orly to Milan Linate and vice versa. Volare is out to be basicly a web-airline where the main canals of distribution will be the webpage and the call center. The company will achieve a position between the low cost and the traditional airlines in order to reach a transversal target.
The group dispose about ultimate aircrafts (Boeing and Airbus). These machines have been choosed accordingly to the effort to look for a high level of reliability and comfort. Intercontinental scheduled and charter flights are operated by Boeing B767-300 ER and the scheduled short-range flights by Airbus A320. The development plan foresees to improve the flights on Milan Linate and Malpensa and to increase the number of aircrafts both on the short-range and long-range routes. The Group is highly motivated and decided to reconquer the trust of their passengers and clients and get back the place it deserves, for it's tradition and professionality in the italian air transport.
The companies of the Volare Group followed different ways, for they were born and developed separately: even before their union they have represented important steps in the story of italian market.
Air Europe began to operate in Italy in 1989, on mostly touristic long-range routes towards nations which were not easy to reach. Air Europe introduced a high standard of quality on board their charter flights (introducing for the first time the Business Class on "rented" flights) operated by very modern Boeing 767-300 ER. In 1997 Air Europe added, to the existing charter flights, scheduled flights towards Cuba, Mauritius and Jamaica. Between 1998 and 1999 Swissair became a shareholder and by starting with the scheduled routes in Italy (Milan to Naples, Bari, Catania, Palermo) Air Europe entered into the Qualiflyer Group. In Summer 1999, going on with it's development of innovation, Air Europe introduced for the first time in Italy the prestigious Boeing 777-200 IGW with the goal to strengthen the product in relationship to the increase of the services on the intercontinental scheduled routes, which represents for the company today an important strategic asset. A continuous evolution realized with the attempt to offer the passengers the best in terms of aeronautical tecnology and quality of the service on board. Currently Air Europe operates on touristic routes by charter and scheduled flights.
Volare Ailines was founded in 1997 and inaugurated the first charter flight on the 3 April 1998. Since then it allarged quickly it's network touching all principal destinations in Europe and the mediterranean area and, based on the reached success, diversified it's activity by introducing scheduled flights towards Sardinia from Milan, Bergamo, Rome, Venice and Verona. In Summer 2002, according to the ongoing tecnological updating, Volare Airlines introduced for the first time in Italy four Airbus A 330-200 in order to enforce Air Europe on the intercontinental routes.
Another step and important date of the air transport has been the 5 February 2003, when Volareweb.com, the first italian low-cost, was founded. What characterises Volareweb.com, besides the principles of the european low-cost, is something more: the italian way of being, that is this added value of comfort, services, efficiency of the staff and very high reliability of the aircrafts.
Volareweb.com, a Volare Airlines trademark, started to operate on the 30 March 2003 with Airbus A320 aircrafts mainly from the airports of Milan: Linate, Malpensa and Orio Al Serio, beside Venice and Bari, towards italian and european destinations.
Today, despite the strong downsizeing of the fleet, we can count on decenary tecnology and know how assuring us a very high standard of security and quality.
