Established in 2003, Wizz Air is a Polish/Hungarian airline focusing on the markets of Central Europe. Its main bases are Ferihegy Airport, Budapest and Katowice
International Airport, with hubs at Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport and Gdansk Airport. The airline operates 32 scheduled routes across a network of destinations: Athens, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Kaunas, Liverpool, London Luton, Malmo, Milan, Palma, Paris, Poznan, Rome, Sofia and
Stockholm.
The airline was established in September 2003 with partnership of (Indigo Partners).
The airline's CEO and chairman is József Váradi, former CEO of Malév Hungarian Airlines. The company is registered in London with operating subsidiaries in Poland and Hungary.
32 scheduled routes are operated across a network of 18 International destinations (as of July 2005): Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Brussels, Cologne (starts summer 2006), Glasgow Prestwick, Budapest, Dortmund, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Gdańsk, Katowice, Kaunas, Liverpool, Ljubljana (starts 1 May 2006), London Luton, Malmö, Palma de Mallorca, Paris, Poznan, Rome, Split, Sofia, Stockholm, Turin, Warsaw and Zagreb. Bus connections also operate to Krakow and Copenhagen. Wizzair recently announced the launch of new connections between Edinburgh-Warsaw, Edinburgh-Gdansk, and Brussels-Ljubljana.
Wizz Air has in its short history cancelled a lot of flights including Katowice - Gdańsk, Warszawa - Barcelona, Katowice - Budapeszt, Katowice - Munich, Katowice - Berlin, Katowice - Malmö, and Katowice - Amsterdam. The airline just also recently (Spring 2006) reduced capacity on several routes, including Warsaw - Paris/Beauvais, Warsaw - Stockholm/Skavsta, Warsaw - Kaunas, Katowice - Dortmund, Budapest - Paris/Beauvais, Budapest - Amsterdam, Budapest - Warsaw, Budapest - Stockholm/Skavsta, Budapest - Brussels/Charleroi, Warsaw - Brussels/Charleroi, Budapest - Frankfurt/Hahn, many of them left with only 3 weekly flights, even on prime markets like Paris or Amsterdam.
The airline also offers charter services. Groups can have charter flights to any airport in Europe.
Aircraft:
The Wizzair fleet consists of 6 Airbus A320-200 aircraft (at October 2005). It has committed to one further Airbus A320 lease and has firm orders for twelve Airbus A319/Airbus A320s . The airline intends to operate 25-30 aircraft in 3-5 years. The fleet is easily recognisable in airports due to its white, pink and purple colors.
